since I like wolves too it’s been a pleasure to follow you. No, more than that. I’ve said before how we share remarkably similar tastes in things, and I get interested in something if you post about it and I’ve never heard of it before. In addition to rolling around in SanSan together, it was so so lovely to find another person who thinks Odette/von Rothbart is interesting.

ughhghghghg I mean I get that Rothbart is bad but he’s admittedly bad. He even sings a song about being bad. You know he’s bad. It’s out in the open.

Derek’s badness and sexism, meanwhile, is just not worked through in the slightest. He gets to ignore that it’s a problem, he gets to treat this comment like a silly misstep rather than a serious error in his worldview.

He spends the whole movie searching for Odette, who becomes even more like a quest object, an item on a pedestal, something to look at and obtain. And then at the end he says something about having always loved her for her kindness and courage. Lol whatever, you like her looks. YOU LIKE HER LOOOOOOKS.

Rothbart/Odette is remarkably similar to Ganondorf/Zelda, one of my favorite ships. I’ve always had a weirdly intense spot in my heart for the trope of evil wizard kings and imprisoned princesses who fight like cats and dogs.

Even as a little girl, I thought Rothbart was more attractive than Derek, just my own um taste. I have always liked sort of wonky-looking (even ugly) snarky people more than attractive boringly forthright people.

I mean, The Swan Princess is a pretty silly movie, but I could really see the story and that ship being retold in a really appealing way. If there was a version that centered around the wizard king and the princess rather than the sexist baby prince….. ahhhhhh, it would be perfect. That graphic made me so excited, honestly. That movie would be perfect.

And yes, ROGERS! The best thing in my childhood.

the visuals and score are great. charlize is over the top but it works. i personally enjoy kristen stewarts face so i liked it. but yes, generally pretty underwhelming. i think its the pacing.

Yes, all of this. I’m really liking Charlize, actually. I mean, the whole movie is a little melodramatic, so the way she’s acting goes along well with that. I like Kristen Stewart a lot personally (from interviews, she seems like a stellar human being) but I haven’t actually watched her in a movie before. I’m really liking her so far… And yeah the pacing, or something’s off…

I thought so… but yeah, really, they’re the twins. And I was laughing when the woodsman started to Drink Away the Pain; I was like “oh dear, is this a thing with me now? Lady and the Tramp-Who-Gets-Drunk?”

I love TPB but sometimes I like fairy tale fantasy that does take itself seriously. Also I tend to give that movie more of a pass because the original script HOLY COW DID THAT THING SUCK.

I haven’t watched the whole movie yet… and maybe it’s just what I wanted to watch tonight or something? I mean, I love serious fantasy, and I love to read really serious unsmiling fairy tales. I just feel like maybe a little lightheartedness would do some good for me in this movie; everybody’s so unrelentingly glum. :/ Good to know that it’s better than it could have been, though! And I really do like the visuals and the actors, it’s very beautiful.

I shut off when they ripped off Princess Mononoke, oops. Good movie though. The plot wasn’t as ground-breaking as everyone made it seem. Stupid hype. So yeah, underwhelming.

Yes, good! I’ve been reading Williams since I was a 10-year-old tyke. I like his books. His fantasy ones are like a slightly kinder, less uncouth version of ASOIAF.

Your mileage may vary on how much that relationship will remind you of SanSan - the only reason I feel so strongly about it was that I read ASOIAF after I read Shadowmarch, and I thought Sandor/Sansa reminded me of Briony/Vansen. This was before I learned that the order of influence author-wise was the reverse, and very real.

Oh, thank you! Yes, that series is so cheesy but I was actually enjoying it before my brother came in and started making fun of it. It was so irritating, ahahah! I was enjoying the romantic dialogue!

OH the homework was kind of a response to nobodysuspectsthebutterfly complaining that my last essay questions were too easy. If anybody (including nobodysuspectsthebutterfly) just wants to talk more about SanSan equaling Beauty and the Beast, I’d love to read more about that.

And I just realized my essay was totally biased about SanSan being endgame, I hope it’s not too off-putting for nonbelievers. All of what I said is honestly a trajectory prediction from what is in the books, I wasn’t actually trying to push SanSan mindlessly.
